This closed meeting brought together the Ministries of Health of five countries, to share their experience, practices and ideas on protecting health care from violence. This report therefore does not reflect a consensus view but rather is intended to serve as a refresher for those who took part in the meeting and to provide a general overview of the outcomes for interested stakeholders. The responses given were cross-cutting and, in some cases, combined into one statement. But they can nevertheless be broken down into the following four interconnected themes:
- Identifying key stakeholders, defining the issue and understanding its challenges
- Collecting data and sharing knowledge
- Championing a multi-factorial approach driven by ministerial leadership
- Ongoing engagement on implementation
We hope that the topics and practices highlighted in this report will encourage refreshed initiatives and stronger leadership from Ministries of Health to address this problem domestically and internationally.
Sincerely,
Steering Committee of the Ministers of Health Meeting on Protection of Health Care from Violence
